The overview of the UEH Green Campus - Green Visit event

In his opening speech at the UEH Green Campus - Green Visit event, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao - Vice President of UEH shared: “In recent years, sustainable development is beyond an option; in fact, this is an inevitable direction for higher education. Universities need to take the lead in renewing thinking, integrating technology, and expanding their role from teaching to creating value for the community and society. The UEH Green Campus project is a concrete commitment from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) in that journey. It is beyond a model; it is a Green ecosystem that connects Operations, Governance, and Community, with Training and Research at its core, integrated into a strategic mindset for sustainable and comprehensive development. We hope that today’s program will be an opportunity for units to exchange experiences, to inspire each other, and to open up opportunities for connection, contributing together to the common development of the Vietnamese education ecosystem.”

Within the framework of the program, delegates had the opportunity to visit and to learn the Living Lab model – the UEH Green Campus living laboratory, the project development formula, and other 15 products that have been and are being developed within the UEH Green Campus ecosystem, shared by Ms. Le Thi Hanh An - Project Manager of UEH Green Campus. This space integrates practical operations and management with research and training activities, where sustainable development solutions are tested, applied, and replicated right within the university campus.

The program is an opportunity for units to share knowledge and experiences in the green transformation journey, opening up many cooperation opportunities, all aiming to build a green university model – where academia, innovation, and community development go hand in hand for a sustainable future. “UEH is very much looking forward to universities and university dormitories being able to implement the green university model that UEH is pursuing. We hope that a network of green universities will soon be formed. This is the best incubator and practice environment for green skills for learners and the younger generation.” - Ms. Le Thi Hanh An stated.

From the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dr. Phan Thanh Dinh, Deputy Rector, shared: “I am very honored and excited to attend this sharing session. We have started pursuing the Green University model since 2019. Over the past 5 years, we have gradually built and perfected this development orientation. However, after listening to the presentation from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City today, I truly realize that in the journey towards sustainable development, we still have much to learn and supplement. The sharing from your university is a great source of inspiration for us – those who are striving to find the right path to realize the goal of a sustainable learning environment. This is truly a valuable asset for any educational institution that wishes to commit to sustainable development for the future of the country.”

Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Hieu, Coordinator - Lecturer in SUD - Sustainable Urban Development at Vietnam-Germany University, also emphasized that lessons learned from previous projects, especially those related to management and implementation, can be very helpful in the process of collaboration and developing future programs. From his perspective, although we cannot apply all the lessons, the exchange and sharing of experiences will be a crucial factor in helping each individual and organization to grow.

After learning the Living Lab model, the units were able to visit directly at UEH's B and N campuses, where notable initiatives are being implemented: waste classification at the source, using renewable energy, designing green spaces, and resource recycling systems. These products not only have high practicality but also clearly demonstrate UEH's commitment to pioneering the construction of a green, environmentally friendly university.

With a strong commitment to building a learning, research, and operational environment that is friendly to the environment, UEH continues to affirm their role as a leader in spreading the green university model, laying the foundation for the sustainable development of Vietnam's educational ecosystem.
