The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has officially launched the UEH Green Campus - Green Coins - Green Citizen System. This initiative allows over 37,000 learners to perform green actions, earn green points, and convert them into "Green Coins" for payments or discounts on internal services at UEH. Built on a "gamified" technology platform, this initiative is expected to motivate every student to proactively act for the environment and sustainable development.

UEH Green Campus - Green Coins - Green Citizen System: Green Actions, Green Points, and Green Coins
As the first university in Vietnam to implement a Living Lab Green Campus model, UEH views its 13 campuses as practical laboratories for green and sustainable practices. For the 2021-2025 period, the university has aimed for an international-standard Green University model based on ten key components, including waste management, emissions management, efficient energy use, and green transportation.
Accordingly, each year, UEH students have the opportunity to participate in nearly 60 green action activities and events, from sorting 10 tons of waste at the source and saving electricity/water to participating in environmental volunteer programs and taking courses on green school models and green skills.
To further encourage its over 37,000 learners to proactively take green actions, UEH is officially launching the UEH Green Campus - Green Coins - Green Citizen System.

The system records Green Points on the UEH Student application
Green Actions, Green Titles
To foster a community of green citizens, UEH students will be encouraged to participate in four main activity groups to accumulate Green Points:
(1) Inspiring Action (Max 20 Green Points):
Participating in environmental and sustainable development programs, campaigns, community projects, or clubs organized or co-hosted by UEH.
(2) Raising Awareness (Max 20 Green Points):
Engaging in knowledge-based games like the UEH Green Campus Game and other learning activities to enhance understanding of the environment and sustainability.
(3) Igniting Knowledge (Max 20 Green Points):
Participating in scientific research, academic competitions, and proposing initiatives related to the environment and sustainable development.
(4) Green Action - Healthy Living (Max 40 Green Points):
Practicing a green lifestyle, such as sorting waste at the source, using the UEH Shuttle Bus, and reducing single-use plastics.
Based on their total accumulated Green Points, students will be awarded titles, with "UEH Green Citizen" being the highest honor.

Earning Green Points, Converting to Green Coins, Paying for Internal Services
The system operates in a simple, student-friendly manner:
- Step 1: Students perform green actions to accumulate Green Points
- Step 2: Students who earn enough Green Points achieve the "UEH Green Citizen" title
- Step 3: Students with the "UEH Green Citizen" title can convert their points into digital "Green Coins" to pay for or receive discounts on internal services at UEH, such as the UEH Shuttle Bus, dormitory laundry services, photocopying, and payments on the UEH e-transaction portal.
(Note: Green Coins cannot be exchanged for cash)
Towards the "UEH Green Citizen" Role Model
With the UEH Green Campus - Green Coins - Green Citizen System, UEH continues to affirm its efforts to realize its Green University strategy through practical solutions that closely link education, technology, and sustainable behavior. The initiative aims to raise awareness and change the behavior of every student, fostering a generation of responsible and capable UEH Green Citizens who are ready to spread green values to the community and society.

UEH - A Pioneer in Implementing a Living Lab Green Campus in Vietnam For nearly five years, the project has successfully diverted 8.2 tons of recyclable waste and raised awareness of the Green University Regulations and the 3R Principles (Reduce - Reuse - Recycle) among 90% of staff and learners. Over 70 scientific research papers and 47 practical solutions have been proposed by students and faculty to address environmental issues, and more than 58 green programs and events have attracted over 10,000 participants annually. In 2026, the UEH Green Campus Project will enter a new phase, focusing on emissions reduction and aiming for the Net Zero 2050 target by conducting a greenhouse gas inventory to build a database for systematically measuring and planning emissions reduction roadmaps. |
