UEH Green Office - Empowering the new generation of sustainable offices
Under the direction of the Sustainable University Project Steering Committee, “UEH Empowering Green Office” (abbreviated as UEH Green Office - UEH GO) is a new-generation office model, pioneering at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) with three core characteristics: (1) An innovative and technology-oriented virtual office; (2) Empowering the younger generation to take sustainable actions; (3) Implementing and executing green action programs for the environment through the UEH Green Campus project.
The UEH Green Campus project operates as a Living Lab model, integrating sustainability principles into UEH's five strategic pillars: Education, Research, Governance, Operations, and Community Engagement across 13 campuses in Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh Long, and Nha Trang, addressing 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is a key project under UEH's Multi-disciplinary and Sustainable Development strategy, creating impacts at individual (YOU), team/department/member school level (WE), local level (LOCAL WE), and global level (GLOBAL WE).
Empowered through Green Office - UEH GO, the young generation of UEH, along with various units within the university, has made truly positive impacts. Over more than four years, the UEH Green Campus project has collected and recycled 8 tons of waste (as of March 2025), increasing green living awareness from 88.3% to 95.05%. Some technological innovation products include: UGC - Game: An educational tool applying gamification technology; UGC - Zeen AI Scan: An AI-based waste classification support application; UGC - Zeen AI Bot: An AI-powered robot supporting waste classification. Several well-organized awareness-changing communication campaigns include: UGC - Rethink & Be Green, UGC Zero Waste - Hero You, UGC - Let’s Green Unitour, UGC - Campaign “Towards No Single-use Plastic Future”.
Previously, the project was honored with several prestigious awards, including: winning first prize at the international competition “Zero Waste Cities Challenge” organized by the NGO WasteAid in collaboration with various international sponsors; contributing to UEH being appointed by the United Nations as Vice Chair in charge of networking and cooperation for SDG 11 – “Sustainable Cities and Communities” for the 2025–2027 term; and the “No Single Use Plastic Ecosystem” initiative being shortlisted in the Plastic Innovation Programme organized by UNDP.

About UEH Multidisciplinary & Sustainable Development Strategy: UEH's sustainable development strategy is comprehensively implemented across five pillars. In terms of Education, UEH maintains lifelong learning and the Glocal training platform through various courses, including short-term and long-term programs, catering to different audiences to contribute to SDG 4 – Quality Education. The university equips learners with the ability to make wise, balanced, and comprehensive decisions. At the same time, UEH emphasizes providing solid foundational knowledge on sustainable development as a compulsory subject for all disciplines, helping learners not only understand but also actively create positive changes for the environment and society, aiming toward sustainable development. In recent years, the university has introduced 13 multidisciplinary training programs that align with modern trends and future workforce demands, including Technology and Innovation, Digital Communication and Multimedia Design, Accounting integrated with international professional certifications, Financial Technology (Fintech), Marketing Technology (Martech), Digital Business, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Engineering (Robot & AI), Logistics Technology and Supply Chain Engineering (Logtech), Information Security, Information Technology, Computer Science, ArtTech, and Intelligent Control and Automation. Nearly 100 extracurricular educational activities, competitions, seminars, and events on sustainable development, environmental protection, green technology, green economy, green university, circular economy, and sustainable urbanization have been organized. Research: UEH has produced over 500 research papers from lecturers and staff, along with hundreds of student research projects related to green living and the circular economy. These contributions significantly support SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13 – Climate Action, and SDG 14 – Life Below Water. Governance: UEH consistently upholds the principle of "Democracy – Transparency – Fairness", where all members are treated equally, guaranteed their rights, and regularly involved in decision-making processes, policy implementation, and program activities. Additionally, UEH integrates sustainable practices into university governance and fosters a green culture as part of daily operations, contributing to SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 15 – Life on Land, and SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Operations: UEH has implemented a green campus model under the UEH Green Campus project. To date, 5 tons of landfill waste have been reduced by thoroughly applying the source separation model, increasing waste lifecycle, and promoting responsible consumption, which aligns with SDG 12 and SDG 15. Community: UEH continuously connects with organizations and communities interested in sustainability to share and discuss solutions to environmental challenges. Notably, the International Forum on Sustainability (IFS) has made significant contributions to SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals. To sustain and develop the sustainable university strategy in alignment with internationalization, UEH annually integrates the 17 SDGs into all institutional activities. The university consolidates sustainability criteria from three relevant ranking systems - QS Sustainability, THE Impact, and UI Green Metrics - and incorporates them into each unit's annual objectives (OKRs).
