June marks a series of environmental milestones, including Vietnam's Sea and Islands Week (June 1-8), World Environment Day (June 5), and World Oceans Day (June 8). In response to Official Dispatch No. 3151/BGDDT-KHCNTT from the Ministry of Education and Training, which promotes green transition, sustainable development education, and enhanced climate change resilience, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) is launching a communication campaign to transform environmental challenges into practical student action.

Built around the core message "GREEN VIBE ONLY: SWITCH ON THE GREEN LIFESTYLE, KEEP THE EARTH WELL" the campaign goes beyond slogans, affirming UEH's climate change response strategy grounded in evidence-based data, governance capacity, and the technological competencies of UEHers.
From Nature's Warnings to a Global Call to Action
Initiated by the United Nations General Assembly at the historic Stockholm Conference in 1972, World Environment Day (June 5) has become the world's most important platform for coordinating global environmental action. In 2026, hosted by the Republic of Azerbaijan, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) issued a powerful wake-up call through its #NowForClimate campaign: "The Earth does not argue. It does not negotiate. It simply sends signals: rising seas, heatwaves, melting glaciers... It is time for us to send a signal back." Alongside the climate campaign, World Oceans Day (June 8) this year calls for the establishment of strong Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), a tradition rooted in the 1992 Earth Summit and officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008.
In Vietnam, this spirit is brought to life through Sea and Islands Week (June 1-8), which not only aims to protect marine biodiversity under the Law on Marine and Island Resources and Environment (2015), but also serves as a meaningful action to uphold national sovereignty over Vietnam's sacred maritime territories.
Understanding “Net Zero”: A Science-Based Imperative
To translate awareness into action, the next generation of knowledge leaders must understand the scientific foundations of key concepts.
Since the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published its landmark Special Report in 2018 warning of the 1.5 degrees Celsius global warming threshold, “Net Zero” emissions have become a survival imperative for humanity. It requires an absolute balance: the amount of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted must equal the amount absorbed and removed from the atmosphere.
Recognizing this urgency, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made a historic commitment at COP26 (2021): Vietnam will strive to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
To bring this national commitment into academic practice, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Official Dispatch No. 3151/BGDDT-KHCNTT, directing higher education institutions to accelerate green transition and sustainable development education as an urgent requirement aligned with the country's Net Zero pledge.

UEH Living Lab: When "Green Vibe" Becomes the Identity of a Green UEHer
As a university that has integrated all 17 of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UEH positions its campus as a Living Lab. Green transition at UEH is measured through clear, tangible data.
On the path toward Net Zero, UEH is conducting emissions inventories across Scope 1, 2, and 3 to optimize smart energy use. At the same time, ocean protection principles are being put into practice on campus. Through its UEH Go Green Station waste-sorting system (Models 3 and 7), combined with Zeen AI (Artificial Intelligence), UEH establishes an "ecological filter" that effectively prevents plastic waste from leaking into waterways and reaching the open ocean.
The "GREEN VIBE ONLY" campaign this June is an opportunity for every UEHer to proactively switch on their green mode. Refusing single-use plastic cups, taking the stairs, turning off electrical devices when leaving a classroom, or correctly sorting an empty bottle are small actions that help restore balance to our ecosystem.
Join UEH in spreading #GreenCulture, turning classroom commitments into real momentum to keep our Earth “healthy”.
