How do you define a capable young person in the digital age? Professionally excellent and technologically savvy? True, but not enough. The Earth is speaking up, and the world needs generations who embrace a "Think Green" mindset and are ready to "Act Green." That is the core value of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) - empowering individuals to become true "Sustainability Ambassadors."

Climate change and the demand for green transition are setting new standards for human resources. The global labor market today requires not only deep expertise but also a workforce with a sustainable development mindset. Contributing to the roadmap for realizing the national Net Zero 2050 commitment, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) identifies education as the core foundation to create a generation of "Glo-cal Citizens" (Global thinking - Local action), capable of solving ecological challenges with a management mindset.

This mission is quantified and executed by UEH through comprehensive strategies:

Integrating Sustainable Knowledge into Program Learning Outcomes

At UEH, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) do not stop at a macro-level orientation but are directly integrated into the academic structure. Currently, sustainable knowledge has been embedded into the learning outcomes of over 90 courses across the system. Students have access to highly applied modules such as Sustainable Investment Project Appraisal, Green Marketing, and Agri-food Value Chain Economics.

Notably, to establish a standard competency framework for the "Glo-cal Citizen" generation, UEH mandates 6 compulsory modules for learners, among which "Sustainable Development" is identified as an indispensable knowledge foundation.

Transforming Theory into Research and Practical Capabilities

The problem-solving capacity of UEH students is clearly demonstrated through the scientific research data platform. To date, learners have conducted 3,878 research projects, thereby directly contributing 58 green initiatives and 47 practical solutions to the UEH Green Campus "Living Lab."

Parallel to academic activities, the extracurricular ecosystem is synchronously designed to promote a culture of action (#GreenCulture). The leadership of the Youth Union - Student Association and student clubs has created highly practical projects such as the "GREEN ERA" green ambassador search competition, the "ECOSTREAK" sustainable lifestyle challenge, the "GREEN PULSE" green transportation promotion campaign, and the "GREEN ZERNITY" green energy campaign.

Social Responsibility and Spreading Community Knowledge

Positioning its role as a sustainable university, UEH advocates expanding the space for knowledge sharing. Specifically, the university has attracted over 2,500 external learners to participate in community events and entirely free open classes.

UEH's impact network is further expanded through the Let's Green Unitour journey. This event series has successfully connected with numerous higher education institutions across the city, recording a record reach of 100,000 students participating in communication campaigns and environmental practices.

Resource Investment and International Measurement Milestones

To maintain the learning ecosystem and provide maximum support for learners, the university and its partner network have mobilized a budget of up to 300 billion VND for scholarship funds.

Strategic investments-from training and research to community connection—have helped UEH affirm its international measurement standing. In the THE Impact Rankings 2025, UEH entered the Top 301 - 400 Universities worldwide. Most notably, the university excellently secured the Top 9 position globally for SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and the Top 30 globally for SDG 5 (Gender Equality).

Equipping a sustainable education foundation today is the most essential preparation for creating environmental protection solutions in the future. Every UEH student is steadily affirming their role as high-quality personnel, ready to lead the green transition in the digital age.
