11.4. Sustainable practices

11.4.9. Building on brownfield sites

UEH’s Revitalization of Brownfield Sites in Ho Chi Minh City and Vinh Long

The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) was strategically developed on brownfield sites in both Ho Chi Minh City and Vinh Long, an innovative approach in Vietnam's higher education infrastructure.

A brownfield site is typically a previously developed land area that may be underutilized or vacant and can contain residual contamination from prior industrial or commercial use. Developing on such sites allows for environmental rehabilitation, promoting sustainable urban growth while conserving undeveloped land.

UEH Nguyen Van Linh Campus

In Ho Chi Minh City, UEH's construction on brownfield land contributes to urban renewal efforts in densely populated areas. By revitalizing previously used land, the university helps combat the city's growing demand for space while reducing environmental degradation. The development also encourages efficient land use, supporting Ho Chi Minh City's mission to transform underutilized urban spaces into hubs of learning and innovation.

UEH Vinh Long Campus

Similarly, in Vinh Long, UEH's campus contributes to sustainable development in the Mekong Delta region. The Vinh Long campus was designed with an emphasis on adaptive reuse and ecological restoration, playing a part in stimulating local economic and social growth. As UEH expands its presence on brownfield sites in both cities, it demonstrates how educational institutions can balance growth with environmental responsibility, paving the way for greener, more efficient urban planning in Vietnam.
