11.4.7. Local authority collaboration regarding planning and development

UEH Collaborates with Local Authorities to Build a Sustainable Living and Learning Environment

The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) is working with local authorities in urban planning and development to build a high-quality living environment for the community. This collaboration is part of UEH’s sustainable development strategy, demonstrating its commitment to contributing to the prosperity and overall development of the local area.

Workshop on Green Growth Development for Local Communities

On October 28, 2023, the Institute of Smart Cities and Management (UEH - ISCM) at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), in collaboration with Green+ Group Corporation, hosted the "Green Growth Development for Local Communities - A Multidisciplinary Perspective" workshop. This event attracted professors, experts, and students from universities, research institutions, government agencies, and businesses, both domestic and international. Part of ISCM's 2023 event series, "Design for a Carbon Neutrality Future," this workshop aligns with Ho Chi Minh City's growth and sustainability strategies. It included discussions directly related to planning and implementing projects along the Saigon River corridor, with insights from experts involved in research and proposal development. Additionally, the workshop highlighted the essential roles of various sectors and the community in supporting Ho Chi Minh City's journey toward green growth and sustainable development.

Recap of the Educational Workshop: Smart Urban Intervention - Smart City Living Lab (SCLL) 2023

On August 17, 2023, the first Educational Workshop of 2023 "Smart Urban Intervention - Smart City Living Lab (SCLL)" took place. Organized by the Institute of Smart Cities and Management (UEH-ISCM) at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) in collaboration with Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University (China) and Sungkyunkwan University (South Korea), the workshop welcomed professors, experts, and representatives from various governmental agencies, universities, research institutes, and organizations in Vietnam, South Korea, and China. Throughout the workshop, experts shared and analyzed the challenges of improving urban intelligence indices and proposed solutions based on their direct experience with smart city projects in Seoul, South Korea. Additionally, speakers discussed opportunities for urban improvement in Vietnam, highlighting the "Living Lab" model—an innovative project model aimed at fostering ideas for sustainable urban development and helping cities prepare for unexpected challenges in the future.

Official Announcement of the 1st Regional Conference: Southeast Asian Urbanization Tackling Global Warming

Co-hosted by the International Center of Urbanisms: Settlements & Environments (ICoU), Department of Architecture at KU Leuven University; the University of Architecture Ho Chi Minh City (UAH); and the Institute of Smart Cities and Management, School of Technology and Design (UEH-CTD/ISCM), the 1st Regional Conference on Southeast Asian Urbanization Tackling Climate Change was officially announced. Through this event, UEH and partners aim to propose practical initiatives and solutions to solve the increasing challenges posed by climate change and to lay the groundwork for future in-depth research collaborations. The conference provides a platform for sharing knowledge and experience while also affirming UEH’s role in sustainable urban development in Southeast Asia. Key speakers at the conference include Prof. Tay Kheng Soon, Dr. Architect Terdsak Tachakitkachorn, and architect Eko Prawoto.

Educational Symposium on Smart City Development

To address the challenges facing urban areas, the Institute of Smart Cities and Management (UEH-ISCM) at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) partnered with Seoul National University (South Korea) to host the Educational Symposium on Smart City Development. Professors and experts in Smart City Development from both UEH and Seoul National University participated in discussions, sharing their insights on key topics such as Smart Transportation, Technology Applications for Urban Challenges, and Sustainable Urban Development.

International Scientific Conference SEAUS 2023: Urban Design Solutions in Southeast Asia to Address Global Warming

The South East Asian Urbanisms to Address Global Warming (SEAUS) 2023 international conference, titled "Urban Design Solutions in Southeast Asia to Address Global Warming," is an annual regional conference in architecture, planning, and urban development. It was co-organized by the School of Technology and Design at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), KU Leuven (Belgium), the University of Architecture Ho Chi Minh City (UAH), and other domestic and international partners. SEAUS 2023 successfully spread knowledge, shared research achievements, and promoted collaboration and networking among scientific communities within and beyond the region in architecture, design, and urban planning. The conference created an invaluable platform for scholars, experts, scientists, and businesses to discuss potential solutions to urbanization challenges facing Southeast Asia.

Successful Conclusion of the Workshop: Fostering Collaboration Across Scientific Communities

The workshop concluded successfully, fostering collaboration and connections among scientific communities both locally and internationally. With the close partnership between UEH and local authorities, the goal of creating a sustainable living and learning environment for the UEH community is becoming a reality. Planning and development initiatives provide affordable housing opportunities and improve quality of life, supporting the comprehensive development of students, faculty, and staff. UEH is committed to continuing its collaboration with local authorities to build a strong academic community, laying the foundation for sustainable development in the future.
