On August 17 and 18, 2024, at Tram Chim National Park in Dong Thap, the Vietnam-Netherlands Program (VNP) successfully organized the campaign “Forest Planting to Welcome Cranes”, a meaningful activity in the series of campaigns “VNP Forest Planting – For a Sustainable Future” to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the program (1994 – 2024).
With the participation of more than 100 members, including lecturers, VNP students, and UEH students, this event was an opportunity for participants not only to demonstrate their environmental responsibility but also to show their commitment towards sustainable development goals. The members collectively planted over 1,000 native trees like candlenut, sour tamarind, jujube, water tamarind, and oil palm - species that are characteristic and play an essential role in restoring the natural ecosystem of the Dong Thap Muoi region. Notably, two large rain trees were planted at the entrance of the Wildlife Conservation Center of Tram Chim National Park, symbolizing the sustainable development and prosperity that the Vietnam-Netherlands Program aspires to achieve.

Tram Chim National Park, one of the most important nature reserves in Vietnam, is home to many rare species of flora and fauna, including the red-headed crane - the symbolic bird of the Dong Thap Muoi region. The tree planting activities organized by VNP not only aim to improve the living environment for this bird species but also contribute to the conservation and restoration of the region's inherent biodiversity. This effort is essential in the context of climate change, which poses numerous challenges to natural ecosystems worldwide.
Throughout the campaign, the participants had memorable experiences. They not only took part in tree planting but also learned from each other regarding the importance of environmental protection and sustainable development. The image of each member diligently digging the soil, planting trees, and watering them has become emotional moments, marking a profound imprint of solidarity and love for nature within the VNP community and UEH students.
